Scholarships

As public school employees, we believe in the importance of education. Every year as an organization, OSEA awards scholarships to members and students to assist them in reaching their academic goals. To have the opportunity to go back to school is a dream of many. And OSEA is happy to be able to make that dream a reality. OSEA provides members and qualifying relatives of members access to the AFT Robert G. Porter Scholars and Member Grants programs as well as the Union Plus Scholarship. Make your dreams come true, apply for a scholarship today! The following scholarships are currently offered:

For OSEA members

Lou Gerber Scholarship

The Lou Gerber Scholarship provides additional funding to those members who wish to further their education at an accredited school. OSEA sponsors two $1,000 scholarships for each of the seven zones in Oregon.

Kathy Melzer Mini-Grants
Deadline: Nov. 5, 2022

OSEA’s Kathy Melzer Mini-Grant program awards $400 to three OSEA members in each of the seven zones to be used for professional development, such as inservice training, workshops or seminars.

For high school seniors and undergraduate students

Guy Davis and Past Presidents’ Scholarship

The Guy Davis Scholarship for graduating seniors awards $1,250 to each recipient. The Past Presidents’ Scholarship is a statewide, $1,500 award. To be eligible, applicants must have a relative who is an OSEA member and have a minimum high school cumulative GPA of 3.0.

John Brown Undergraduate Scholarship
Deadline: Jan. 15, 2023

The John Brown Undergraduate Student Scholarship is a scholarship started by OSEA to provide assistance to college juniors and seniors who are related to an OSEA member in good standing.
